It showed me three items, but said there were actually ten. ![]() It has found some Adware and some Malware. I have now downloaded and run Malwarebytes. There are some videos from TV channels in those places which are geolocked and I want to watch. I have installed the software for NordVPN, which I plan to try soon, because AirVPN has no servers in France, or Denmark, as well as some other places, but NordVPN does have servers in those places. At the moment, I'm only using one VPN, which is AirVPN with their Eddie GUI for the OpenVPN software. The reason I use a VPN is mainly for watching videos from around the World, but also for privacy. It's a pity that Apple have made it very, very difficult or even impossible to upgrade the RAM on this MacBook Air. Years ago, I noticed that Windows software needed 4 times the amount of RAM as the Amiga computer running Workbench OS/Amiga OS to do the same things, so ![]() I have been using Linux for several years with 4Gb, so I thought that macOS would only need 4Gb. I have never owned a computer with more than 4Gb RAM. When I bought this Mac I didn't know that having only 4Gb RAM would cause problems. I can't remember what I was doing on March 20-21 which was so different from all other dates since I got this Mac on February 10. I don't know what all the "very strange launch items and apps" are. I think this even had to be done in the mini vMac emulator. I downloaded some software from there to unarchive old Stuffit archives, but I couldn't get it to work. I also visited Macintosh Garden and was looking at lots of software for classic Macs, but it was mostly older than I thought. I have sometimes had problems with low RAM reports, the spinning beachball or when the screen just seemed to lock up, then I pressed the keys Ctrl + Cmd+ Power, but I didn't know about this key combination until about 2-3 weeks ago. This report doesn't contain any mention of a program called “5934511008435557579”, but some programs are marked as Adware. My main interests are trying to learn to write macOS apps using Swift and Python, studying AI, using Logic Pro X, playing The Sims 4, creating artwork, and watching videos. I got this MacBook Air (2014) on February 10, 2021. I may not be able to afford another MacBook with more RAM or a later model. So, there it is! I'm fairly new to recent versions of macOS, although I have used G3 and G4 Macs with OS9 and OSX 10.3, as well as macOS High Sierra briefly, and Linux with the KDE Plasma desktop. Regarding VPNs consider this: uinless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's or bank's servers, they are useless. The free version is more than adequate for most users. ![]() There is one app, Malwarebytes, which was developed by a long time contributor to these forums and a highly respected member of the computer security community, that is desshoigned solely to seek out adware and known malware and remove it. Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance. They do a poor job of the detecting and isolating the adware and malware. There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.Īnti Virus developers try to group all types as viruses into their ad campaigns of fear.
